Shosh identifies as a TRANS NONBINARY LESBIAN. They care about painting other queer and trans folks, showing them in the softness, strangeness, and love-filled glow. In their representation, there is a high level of communication with the subject being painted so that they may feel empowered, euphoric, and so so hot. In a country where LGBTQ+ rights are up for debate every few years and where trans people are targeted with hate ads by billionaires, work like this matters. Safe queer and trans spaces matter more than ever. Taking up space matters, and it’s fucking scary.

 

Shosh values slowness, rest, and creativity. This means they do not operate like a machine, and they do not make cheap art. Shosh takes time in their creation and lets it be birthed in a way that feels good. You can see this value reflected in their work; their paintings glow with this quality. Shosh’s timeline is professional and realistic, and their rest will be reflected within that.
 

Shosh is VEHEMENTLY AGAINST using AI for art, and any technologies that are stealing the work of artists to profit off of while harming the environment at rates we can’t even comprehend. Any images of their work they share on this website and/or social media is ran through a technology called Glaze to protect it from being used by AI technology. Shosh prefers if their art is not directly shared on social media sites to prevent it being stolen by these companies, unless it has been ran through Glaze. The Glaze program reorganizes the pixels of a photo so that it cannot be read by AI technologies or used to make AI art.

Shosh’s paintings take approximately 3-6 months to birth. Their process moves in spurts of energy and inspiration, and between that: rest. Artists are not machines, despite what our current capitalistic culture may have folks believing.

 

Paintings are created on stretched cotton canvas with a mix of acrylic & oil paints, finished with a semi-gloss varnish.

 

Shosh’s process is a conversation between their creativity and the subject being represented. The subject of the painting will be consulted at a few separate points throughout the process, but ultimately Shosh’s creative vision is what births the work that you have admired.
